AUSTIN — The Austin Police Department and emergency officials are warning residents about a new batch of the drug K2 that has sickened hundreds.
Officials said that as of July 30, they have treated 613 patients and responded to 562 calls since May 29 across Travis County.
Police said there’s a concern that dealers have been spiking the latest batch of K2 with bug spray. As a result, a user’s blood pressure and heart rate both become extremely low. This problem is expected to magnify this summer as it gets hotter. Police also said it’s not just habitual users who are getting sick — it’s also first-time users.
