Proper Usage
- Over-the-counter medications and supplements do not need to be dropped off in the bins. They can safely go in the trash.
- If someone cannot make the trip to a collection bin, they can dispose of prescription medication in the trash by following these guidelines:
- Empty medicine containers into a seal-able bag or a disposable container with a lid.
- Mix the drugs with an undesirable substance, such as used coffee grounds or cat litter and seal the container.
- Place container in the trash.
- Conceal or remove any personal information, including the prescription (Rx) number, on the empty containers and recycle them.
- Illegal drugs cannot be disposed of in the collection bins.
Security
- The bag inside the collection bin is automatically sealed before the bin can be opened. This prevents staff from accessing any of the contents.
- The bags are shipped to the company that provides the service and they incinerate it.
