Oct 17, 2024 – AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Senate Committee on State Affairs began evaluating state laws and regulations surrounding THC-infused beverages. It is currently legal to sell hemp-infused beverages in Texas, and bars are also allowed to sell the drinks – as packaged or mixed with alcohol – if they have the proper licensing.
According to the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC), which regulates alcoholic beverages in Texas, there are no pre-packaged, alcoholic, THC-infused products on the market. A representative with Texas Pediatrics and the Texas Medical Association said the problems with these products are access, regulation and labeling.
“Right now, since there’s no regulation … It says it’s Delta 9, it says how many milligrams, but there’s no way for me to know that for sure. No one’s checking that,” Dr. Lindy McGee said.McGee also urged lawmakers to prioritize clearer labeling of these products, raising the age of purchase to 21 and requiring child-resistant packaging.
